A day off from the day off

I considered yesterday to be my day off from my own vacation.. if that makes sense? I didn't have any elaborate project scheduled to complete, nothing I absolutely HAD to do. So, I made myself an appointment for a facial and a massage because I'm worth it. :) It was about time I had a massage. With the working out going on I have had a lot of lactic acid built up. Youch-o.

So rewind a couple hours and here's how the day went:

I woke up and made breakfast as usual. I tried out my handy dandy Green Skillet which supposedly doesn't require oil or cooking spray. Much to my surprise, it really doesn't! I made and omelet with peppers, onion, spinach, pepper jack cheese and turkey.

Next came the gym. I mixed it up a little today and did some polymetrics. It starts out 10 burpees, 10 crunches, 10 mountain climbers (1,2,3,1. 1,2,3,2. 1,2,3,3. 1,2,3,4. 1,2,3,5..) and then 10 tuck jumps. Then it goes to 9 burpees, 9 crunches, 9 mountain climbers and 9 tuck jumps. It continues on down the line until you hit 1. The key is to not stop and take breaks in between. After that I just ran a few miles and hit the shower. I was cutting it close on time and needed to be at the massage place by one o'clock. I ate a quick snack in the car of Greek yogurt, cinnamon and almonds. The best part of this snack is the cutlery that I used. This little compact is fantastic. I try to leave it in my car or purse so I have it on the go. You never know when you'll randomly need a spoon.. until you're in your car trying to eat chicken salad and all you have is a pen.. yeah it happened. I don't want to talk about it. Anyhow, I got this utensil kit at World Market and I have also seen them at Old Navy and it was a great investment to say the least.

The two hours I spent getting a massage and facial was one of my favorite blocks of time that I have had this week. Magnificent.

Once I finished up there I met up with an amigo and we grabbed sushi and hung out for the evening. Solid day :)

Today I got back into grind mode. I got up and made breakfast. Then went to the gym for chest, back and shoulders. Ouch, ouch, and ouch.. but I liked the ouch.. :) The main thing I want to share from this visit to the gym is the interval treadmill workout that I did. It's constantly changing speeds which in turn works as a great cardio workout. It causes your heart rate to be more alert and work a little harder to match up to the task that your giving it. And when the task/speed is always changing then your heart is working harder to keep up. The routine is as follows:

0:00- 5:00 4.5mph
5:00-7:00 6.0 mph
7:00-8:00 7.5 mph
8:00-10:00 6.2 mph
10:00-11:00 7.6 mph
11:00-13:00 6.4 mph
13:00-14:00 7.7 mph
14:00-16:00 6.6 mph
16:00-17:00 7.8 mph
17:00-19:00 6.8 mph
19:00-20:00 7.9 mph
20:00-35:00 repeat minutes 5:00-20:00
35:00-40:00 4.0 mph

Even if you can't make it through the sequence both times, one time is enough to get your sweat on.

One of Lauren's coworkers had a birthday so I was in charge of making a cake for him. I basically made a death by chocolate cake. Literally, death. Just looking at this baby could give someone diabetes. In this four layer devils food cake there is sandwiched a layer of chocolate peanut clusters, a layer of chocolate caramel crunch clusters and one last layer of chocolate peanut clusters . It's frosted in a classic fudge icing and then topped with chopped Snickers, Reese's cups, Baby Ruth, Milky Way and chocolate covered bridge mix. Holy shiboley. More power to the one who tries to conquer this monstrous cake.

After seeing this final product I decided it was time for dinner. And not only that, I wanted veggies. Lots and lots of veggies. I made baked tilapia, green beans and a spinach salad. Now I didn't feel so shameful about having such a glutenous mass in my kitchen.

Solid. That's all for tonight! Tootles :)
